Substitute Teacher

In this dream I am applying for a position as a substitute teacher. A gal at the school is helping me get all the paperwork together and then calls me into the principles office for an interview. I am very nervous and start to wonder why I was even there as I have never taught anything before and don't have any credentials, but before I can turn to leave the principle jumps right in and asks what would I do in the classroom. Without even thinking I say that I always love to draw kids out with their imagination to uncover the heart of who they are. I would ask them questions that allow them to tell a story about themselves. The principle quickly cuts in and says that she has a need in a class but the teacher is very strict and I would need to be very good to sub for her class. Then she continues by looking over my paperwork.

Scene Change:

I am in a fourth or fifth grade classroom and am being introduced as the sub. I am starting to get nervous, but know the Holy spirit will lead me and right away I ask the class "who has got a crazy story about themselves". Fortunately several raise their hands and I begin to call on them and they share. From there I am able to keep the class engaged and get to know them better. There is one kid in the class who I can tell has some sort of learning disability. He raises hand to tell a story and when I call on him he starts to talk then freezes. I come up next to him to encourage him, but he is clearly shut down. Then the regular teacher comes in and says "it is best to leave him for now".

Scene Change:

I am now in the hallway and I see a former employee of mine and he is kind of irritated and feeling threatened that I am applying to be a substitute teacher because he needs all the work he can get. He is telling me about all his qualifications and how good he is in the classroom. I am just listening to him as he talks. We are then suddenly talking to a teacher on a school playground where kids are playing and he is going over things we would need to know about his class. This former employee starts giving him a sales pitch about how he is best qualified for the job. I am just watching and taking it all in. Then another, older lady, with a very sweet and motherly type of personality comes in and kneels down by the teacher who is sitting on the ground and tells him how she is the best person for this job. I am listening and finding it so interesting how desperate they are for work and how desperate they are coming across by trying to convince this teacher to pick them.
