My brother (Daniel), myself, and our Grandmom are walking on the beach in San Diego. There is nobody on the beach just us and I notice these massive waves as they crash onto the shore. As we continue to walk, we come up to a house where there is a party and a group of people outside hanging out. My brother and I start to play a game called "Glory". The game is to toss three quarters and a washer (a round piece of metal with a hole in the middle) at a small spot on the ground and whoever gets all three items to land on the spot wins. Many of the people at the party gather around to watch my brother and I begin to toss the coins. I go first and my first throw is bad but the second has a couple of coins hit the spot. Then my brother throws and similar results. As we play on for a while the host of the party asks if he can play. I step aside and explain the object of the game and in his second toss he gets all three onto the spot. We all cheer and my brother and I tell him he is the "glory champion".
He invites us into the house and we are all around a table talking. I get up and put our Grandmom to bed in one of the bedrooms as the host has invited us to stay the night. I leave the house to go to Pacific Beach, as this party is in Del Mar. Once in PB, I find the beach packed with people and it is such a different scene from the empty beaches of Del Mar. I notice that all the houses along the beach are rundown and in horrible condition. I then I get a call from my mom asking if grandmom is hungry and if she needs to be picked up. I tell her that she is fine and I'll make sure she eats. When I hang up I realize that I shouldn't have left her alone because she has dementia and if she wakes up in a strange place it could be very troubling for her. I think about calling my brother to check in on her but I don't have his number. I then think about calling my friend but remember that he doesn't have a phone. So I grab an Uber to get back to the house and explain to my brother that I need to take Grandmom home and so we tell the host that we are grateful for the offer but due to our grandmom's condition we need to go home and can't stay over.
The End!
